Dealing with child abuse, drug trafficking, and corruption expediently, necessary for good governance

Anni030709 Dealing with child abuse, drug trafficking, and corruption expediently, necessary for good governance, says President Nasheed. Government announcements will be published only in the government gazette effective 1 September 2009

President Mohamed Nasheed has said that cases of child abuse, drug trade and corruption should be dealt with expediently in order to establish good governance.

The President made this statement in his radio address to the nation which was broadcast on the Voice of Maldives 7.15 on Friday morning.

Speaking on the importance of strengthening the judiciary for good governance, the President said that the government and the people must as a matter of priority see if the judiciary was functioning efficiently.

He said that it was normally believed that justice delayed is justice denied.

The President noted that the Constitution stipulates fair and transparent hearings by the courts as a fundamental right and that it also clearly lays down the foundations of a judiciary that is separate and independent from the other branches of government.

He added that various mechanisms of strengthening the judiciary need to be adopted and put in place. He said that ensuring the independence of the judiciary was one such important measure.

The President said that as the number of court cases were on the rise, building capacity and resources was essential for efficiency. He said the Judicial Service Commission must cooperate with the courts and as an immediate measure Judicial Service Commission should review the criteria for appointing judges.

Highlighting that there were many qualified lawyers in the Maldives, he said that the Judicial Service Commission should give priority in appointing such people.

In his radio address, President Nasheed also announced that beginning from 1 September 2009, government announcements would be published only in the government gazette.

The President also highlighted on the National Writers’ Day, which is 8 July. The National Centre for Linguistics and Historical Research and local writers will hold several activities to mark the day.

The President concluded the radio address by providing information on his scheduled visit to the United Kingdom. In his visit, the President will give a lecture at the British Parliament will attend a forum on climate change to be held at the Oxford University.

The country is in chaos, where ever you look, I dont understand why he has to go to UK every now and then, Whether you give a speech at Oxford or Harvard, still the housing issues and social issues in Maldives will never solve. Dont waste our money, do your job, the way you have promised, every one who say something against you is not a DRP member.

DRP wants Islamic Ministry to investigate Shula Shiraz rumor of Anni. Why not DRP investigate and present evidence to the police or the ministry?

http://www.miadhu.com.mv/div/index.php

In the same manner, one must also investigate so many issues of Maumoon - rumor about his 2 elder children, his own womanizing at president's offfice, his drinking etc.

Most people who abuse children are NOT DRUG ADDICTS. But quite often they are Koran recitation teachers, tuition teachers and others who hold positions of power in our society.
Arabiyya teachers both foreign and local can be easily singled out as well.
Conveniently blaming just addicts is a cover for a greater evil that has spread in our society due to the inaction and deliberate victimization of victims who reported child abuse, by the previous evil regime.
Imagine a 14 punished for Ziney and the four people who raped her go scot free. That is the state of the justice system that Dictator Maumoon created. Some prominent judges engage with prostitutes and abuse children,as gifts to conclude cases in favour of those who favour them. DRP won the parliament because MDP was not willing to talk about this evil record of an evil regime.

Mr. President, why don’t you come to the point? You must clearly express the current ongoing condition of our Justice system which is still controlled by corrupted old regime.

You must call Judicial Commission to remove judges who are corrupted and purposely delaying cases which are very much related to Social issues of this Country. Its’ your responsibility to call independent commission to act fast and it’s your responsibility as per the new constitution to form a independent Presidential commission to find out about political powers responsibilities and to implement rules of law to this country, this commission must to check why cases are getting delay when evidence been submitted.

Attorney General is frightened to Judges, President is frightened to talk about Judges, and Parliament members are frightened to talk about court systems, Media is banned to talk about Justice systems. Who is going to bring Justice to peoples and people to Justice of this country? Who created this incompetent Justice system with corrupted Judges? Every simple form of cases are welcomed by Judges, every simple cases take months and years to close. Every report takes months in this technology world.

This country politician is proud of themselves by loudly “FELI FELIFAI” talk about democracy. Parliament members proudly say they have given us independent from dictatorship, they always say from independent commission we will get free and fair transparency democratic rules of law and trails. They say Governance within Government is in place. They says Judicial system is independent, so that people of this country will get fast free and fair trails, but everything’s are not the way we think.

President! You must act very fast now and clear the regime from our Justice systems the way that you have removed old regime from people’s power to bring Democratic Government. You have no furture with current Justice systems. Changing contents of the constitution is not what we have been waiting for the last 30 years, we need a change for all the organizations which are related to our peoples future and life.

Just why do you guys hate Anni so much? Just what did he do to warrant such poison? This is the man who was tortured, kept in solitary confinement, and separated from his family for years for finding the courage to speak for freedom of expression, the separation of powers, and justice for our people. This is the man who has drawn respect and acknowledgement from the international community for his stand for the protection of our planet from global warming, human rights and freedom of expression. This is the man whose leadership is bringing in major reforms in our social fabric, who has called for decent housing, quality education for all, medical care, pension for the elderly, a stop to drug trafficking, and affordable living for our people.
Only criminals, wannabe Presidents and dictators can hate Anni and the present government this much. Sure this government has made many mistakes, is making many mistakes and will make mistakes. We are a new democracy; we are learning to live in a whole different paradigm, in the face of no agreement from a considerable large portion of the population.
But guess what? We will learn how to be a democracy, we will make this country a state of the art nation, we will lead extraordinary lives, and we will transform the current culture of evil greed and exploitation to love, humility, generosity, empathy and prosperity for all.
Don’t for a moment think we can’t. We can because we said so. My advice to you guys, simmer down, spend some time reading the Quran, feel the presence of Allah, pray five times a day and give gratitude to Anni and his team who is working so hard to bring to us Anneh Dhivehiraajeh.
